The Honest Citizen

A political preferment, labeled with its price, was canvassing the state to find a purchaser. One day, it presented itself to a truly good man. After examining the label, he found that the price was exactly twice what he was willing to pay. With firm resolve, he spurned the political preferment from his door.

Then the people exclaimed, "Behold, this is an honest citizen!" The truly good man, feeling a sense of humility, confessed that it was indeed true. He understood that integrity often comes with a cost, and he was willing to uphold his principles even in the face of temptation.
