The Thoughtful Warden

The Warden of a penitentiary was one day busy securing the locks on all the cell doors. As he worked, a mechanic approached him and said, "Those locks can all be opened from the inside. You are being very imprudent."

The Warden, not bothering to look up from his task, replied, "If that is considered imprudence, then I wonder what would be deemed a thoughtful provision against the vicissitudes of fortune."
